Octagonal Sandstone Font of Significant Age.

A weathered octagonal sandstone font of significant age carved from a single block of sandstone. The surface shows heavy patina from long-term outdoor exposure. The vessel has a wide octagonal rim that tapers to a narrower, faceted base, reflecting Gothic or ecclesiastical design. Warm buff-to-yellow tones show through the natural weathering. It likely once stood on a purpose-made base in situ. It now rests on a square, rough-hewn plinth with a quarry-faced texture, creating a clear contrast with the more refined carving above. The stone carries lichen growth, green moss and algae staining, surface pitting, chips, and a small notch on the rim, all contributing to its antique character. A strong garden feature; Ideal as a birdbath or focal point.
