Rare 19th C Carved Stern Board from a British Merchant Vessel

A wonderful 19th C Ships Stern Board. Likely of British origin and carved during the second half of the nineteenth century, taken from a merchant vessel, with a military name as suggested by the numerous military features depicted in the high quality carving. Fantastic original paintwork. It has some interesting carved detail in the military features at both ends, and the beautiful cornucopias in the centre of the boards. It’s also a good size at over 10ft long. Very few stern carvings have survived and even less from this date and in this original condition making this a very rare item. A wonderful piece of maritime heritage valued by a leading maritime historian in excess of £20,000.
